Norway has pledged an additional 125 million Norwegian kroner, equivalent to $13.2 million, to support Palestine through the United Nations and World Bank. This aid is aimed at assisting the Palestinian public sector, which continues to face significant challenges due to the ongoing effects of the Gaza war and limited access to essential resources such as food, clean water, electricity, and healthcare.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide emphasized the high demand for international assistance in the region. He highlighted the importance of accelerating early-recovery efforts and improving humanitarian access. Eide also called for the implementation of a 20-point peace plan adopted by the UN Security Council, stressing that Palestinians should take a leading role in reconstruction efforts.
In addition to providing financial support, Norway reiterated its opposition to Israeli settlement activities in the West Bank. The Norwegian government expressed concern that the expansion of settlements, settler attacks, and restrictions on Palestinian movement were exacerbating insecurity and complicating efforts towards achieving a political solution.
This new commitment is part of Norway’s ongoing support for Palestine, with the country providing approximately 1 billion Norwegian kroner in assistance this year. Norway’s actions reflect its continued focus on promoting peace and stability in the region through both financial aid and diplomatic efforts.
