Qatar has expressed approval of recent decisions by the Netherlands and Belgium to prohibit the import of goods originating from Israeli settlements. Qatar views these measures as a significant move toward addressing the ongoing issue of settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.
In an official statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that these bans align with international efforts to dissuade the expansion of settlements, which they argue contravenes international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334. The ministry’s stance is that such actions are crucial in upholding legal frameworks intended to resolve the conflict in the region.
Additionally, Qatar has called upon other nations to implement similar measures, urging the global community to uphold its legal and moral obligations by pressing Israel to cease its settlement activities in the occupied territories. Reaffirming its historical support for the Palestinian cause, Qatar reiterated its commitment to a two-state solution as a means to resolve the conflict. This solution envisions the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem serving as its capital.
